The Tackle Shop Shellharbour,
Fishing Report.
It seems the cold conditions have influenced many anglers to watch the Olympics rather than wet a line. However, Alan Glover and his sons, Wade and Rory braved the cruel conditions to nail some good luderick and groper from the Kiama rocks to take out the BRE section of the Ocean Beach Hotel Fishing Club competition.
The local rocks have produced trevally, rock blackfish, luderick and bream but anglers have had to work pretty hard for them. Berley has been essential for any real success.
The estuaries have picked up a little. Angelo Garcia scored well on luderick in the lake using squirt worms for bait. Minnamurra has a few luderick and the Shoalhaven has been a good option for flathead using soft plastics or whitebait.
Good news for offshore anglers is the dreaded leatherjackets seem to have moved on. The bad news is barracouta are showing up as the water temperature falls to take over from the jackets, snipping off anything shiny. There have been some good reports of nice flathead from the sand and gravel patches off Shellharbour.
Richard Keen fished the offshore waters of Jervis Bay for a mixed bag of kings to 4kg, snapper to 2kg as well as bream, luderick and trevally. Gillian and hubby Ivor, also found a good patch of quality reds to 3kg.
The soft plastics brigade have also nailed some of these quality fish in close on the “chooks”.
